Book Schedule: Are You Allowing Enough Time? How to Figure Out Your Timeline…

Time. There it is. Everything needs time, it doesn’t just happen over night. Start with your preferred date of release and work backwards through what needs to be done.

Your list will look something like this:

  1. Release Date: the day your book is for sale
  2. Shipping: allow at least 2 weeks depending on quantity and form of delivery
  3. Printing: offset generally takes longer than POD so be sure to ask your printer how long to allow. Hardcover books take longer than paperback so ask that too. POD usually is a 7-10 day process… but some have a proofing period so be sure to research and allow for that.
  4. Design time: be sure to ask your designer Read more »

Using Social Media to cross-promote You…

I just ran across this post about “13 ways to cross-promote on social media sites”

website banner screenshot from ©thepublicityhound.com blog

Joan Stewart has what she calls “digital bread crumbs” for friends and fans to follow… this is in the social media we choose to use.

One of the important things to remember in any social media experience is… the experience you share and receive. Be sure to follow some basic rules:

  • be informative
  • share your message
  • engage with others, bring them into your thinking…go to theirs
  • set boundaries for how you respond and are responded to
  • be kind and thoughtful
  • remember, what you say is who you are and how you share promotes you to the world that is listening… or not!

We are not alone on the internet. It is not a closed-circuit of information. Once you say something be sure to be able and willing to back it up to the best of your ability and be sure to let your readers know if you made a mistake or miss quote… things happen to all of us and the willingness to know/like/and trust is a strong emotion to engage your reader/fans/followers in.

and most of all…

Enjoy the activity!

Here are some sure fire Incentives for becoming a self published author:

1. Control: As mentioned above, you’ll be the one incharge of all the parts, design which means you’ll have control of the way your book cover design and interior formatting will look, editing, printing, and public relations.

2. Money and speed: You’ll make a larger profit on each sale of your book as well as get it published faster.

3. Tax advantages: Becoming a publisher is opening a business and be sure to ask your accountant about the deductions you can take.

4. Recognition: A book is the biggest business card you can make! Your own book will put you in the category of expert and will open up speaking engagements and build self esteem.

5. Challenge: becoming a self publisher will grow your knowledge and view of the world. The feeling of accomplishment you’ll feel is priceless.

Book Design: Printing; POD Printer; POD Publisher explained.

This post is a very generalized basic and brief explanation of the following services: Printer; POD Printer; and POD Publisher.

  1. Printer: Offset; traditional presses and processes; better pricing for large quantity print runs; greater diversity of inks / metalics / fluorescents, etc., wide paper selection, design embellishments like embossing, die-cuts, etc.; wider range of size or binding options; longer turn-around to finished book.
  2. POD Printer: digital; hi-end electronic machines; usually limited paper choices and only standard color inks; no embellishments; set selection of book sizes and binding options available, shorter turn-around for printed book; some offer fulfillment for online sales.
  3. POD Publisher: offers package deals that include cover and interior design, printing, marketing and promotion for your book. Different pricing applied to each package. Usually offers POD printing, offset will depend on publisher selected.
