Tag Archives: writing a book

We all know it's not JUST about writing the book… right?

1. Make / write your statement, book, tips, whatever…

2. Get it out there, blog, post, tweet, video, radio, articles, conferences, seminars, events

3. Do what you have to do so that as many people see your work as possible

4. Prove that you’re a going concern, timely, motivated, aware of the world, benefits

5. That you’re in this for the duration, this is who you are, your focus, goals, gift

6. You’re committed, this is what you think about all the time… your love affair

7. You’re not going to give up… hello… as though this would ever happen

8.  that nothing will stop you… you can be trusted, that you offer safety

AND

Sooner or later, others will begin believing in you just like you believe in yourself, and that’s when good things start happening.

Book Writing: Telling Stories

From time-to-time I receive emails from people who hear about me.. here is one I received today.
Thank you David!

From: David Dantes
Subject: Telling stories

I read your entry in Poynter’s newsletter about telling stories and I CAN NOT agree more.

I’m about to start selling my first book on becoming a better lawyer, probably as an ebook.

It’s 73,000 words.
And I found that THE BEST WAY to write it was:

“Here’s a principle you need to learn to become better at this.
“And here’s the story of how I learned it.”

I’ve found that by merely repeating the title of that section to someone that’s heard the story, the story — and the principle — come back to mind rather quickly.

Thank you for your entry.
Let’s hope A LOT of writers take you to heart.

Self Publishing: A success story for Bunny!

From time-to-time I received emails thanking me and telling me about success stories. Here is one I received recently from Bunny Mitchel in the UK.

Hi Karrie
I just wanted to write to thank you, most sincerely for all the emails you have sent me with advice on self publishing. I have found them so helpful and, working on a tight budget, have really appreciated this free advice.

The best advice you gave me was to do something every day towards my book. I am excited to be having a book launch on 4th August and already have over 60 pre-publication orders.

Thought you might like to see my book cover design that I made with your guidance. I am very proud of it.
Thank you once again
